Brook Activity Centre was opened to the public in May of 1981. Situated in the heart of the Twinbrook estate, the original facilities included a 22m x 16.5m main hall, 6 changing rooms, a kitchen and a committee room.
In November 1990 major internal renovations were carried out to increase the type and variety of activities available to the growing population within the local catchment area.
The most significant of these was the provision of a hi-tech fitness suite. The 16 station facility includes cardio-vascular equipment. With a policy of offering the public the best available, the equipment is updated on a regular basis. Qualified staff are also available to ensure the maximum enjoyment and benefit to users.
Further provisions included the construction of a committee room, which is used for a variety of activities, including: Birthday Parties, Meetings and Training Courses. Augmented by a refurbished kitchen, the committee room has proven extremely popular over the years.
For those looking for a less active leisure experience, the centre can offer the hire of two full-size snooker tables and a pool table.
Recently the development of the 21-Acre site adjacent to the centre has significantly broadened the range of facilities we provide. This initiative, a joint venture between the community sector and the Council, has provided a full-size floodlit Astro-turf pitch, 2 full-size grass soccer pitches and grass Gaelic pitch. The completion of the changing block in September 2001, specifically for all outdoors facilities, provided our users with accommodation fitting for the new Millennium.
