Sport Lisburn - Get Active, Stay Fit

Foreword

As Chairman of the Leisure Services Committee of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council I have great pleasure in commending this 2016/ 2017 edition of the Lisburn & Castlereagh Directory of Sport.

Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council is committed to the on-going development of sport at all levels throughout the area.   The Council operates a comprehensive Sports Development programme, which underpins the ongoing capital development of sports facilities within the area. Working alongside a number of partners from Community based organisations, the Health Trust, National Governing Bodies and the Voluntary sector, our committed Sports Development Team run a number of programmes and events to ensure that the citizens of Lisburn & Castlereagh have an opportunity to participate, thrive and enjoy sporting opportunities on their doorstep. I am delighted that the Sports Development Section has achieved CSE accreditation, which is the industry benchmark, alongside our sports facilities.

In tandem with programme development, the Council is committed to attracting the best sporting events to the area, especially as we now possess Centre's of Excellence for Gymnastics, Hockey, Badminton, Swimming and Ice Skating. With facilities of such calibre Lisburn & Castlereagh always strives to attract big events to the area and no doubt will succeed in this venture again over the next two years. With such an abundance of top of the range facilities I can assure everyone that the Council is committed to promoting sporting excellence as well as encouraging greater participation.

As part of the European City of Sport Programme, I had the pleasure of launching the Funding Brochure for Lisburn & Castlereagh Sports Clubs. We recognise the constant financial difficulties many sports clubs face and this booklet provided detailed information on may potential funding   opportunities available.

I congratulate Sport Lisburn & Castlereagh for their on-going work in building capacity within the voluntary sporting sector in Lisburn & Castlereagh and their support both financial and in kind for Lisburn & Castlereagh's future sporting Champions. I hope everyone, including parents, teachers and children, will find the contents of this Directory beneficial.
