Foreword

As Chairman of the Leisure Services Committee of Lisburn City Council, I have great pleasure in commending the 2010/2011 edition of the City of Lisburn Directory of Sport.

Lisburn City Council is committed to the on-going development of sport at all levels throughout the City. The Council operates a comprehensive Sports Development programme, which underpins the ongoing capital development of sports facilities within the City. Working alongside a number of partners from Community based organisations, the Health Trust, National Governing Bodies and the Voluntary sector our committed Sports Development Team run a number of programmes and events to ensure that the citizens of Lisburn have an opportunity to participate thrive and enjoy sporting opportunities on their doorstep. I am delighted tha the Sports Development Section has once again achieved Quest accreditation, which is the industry benchmark, being recognised as highly commended, making us one of only two Councils in Northern ireland to receive this award.

In tandem with programme development the Council is committed to attracting the best sporting events to the City especially as we now possess Centre of Excellence facilities for Gymnastics, Hockey, Badminton and Swimming. With facilities of such calibre, Lisburn always strives to attract big events to the City and no doubt will succeed in this venture again over the next two years.

With such abundance of top of the range facilities I can assure everyone that the Council is committed to maximising the potential benefit to the City especially in the lead up to London 2012.

I congratulate Sport Lisburn on their ongoing work in building capacity within the Voluntary Sporting Sector in Lisburn and their support both financial and in kind for Lisburn's future sporting champions. I hope everyone including parents, teachers and children will find the contents of this Directory beneficial.
