Sport Lisburn - Get Active, Stay Fit

Sports Bursaries

Lisburn City Council launched the sport bursaries award in 1993, in recognition of Northern Ireland's outstanding achievements in the Soccer World Cup in Spain. The awards are made annually and are administered by Sport Lisburn. The categories under consideration are:
  1. Coach
An award may be made to help offset cost of coach's attendance at coaching courses, seminars and conferences that will lead to an improvement in coaching standards.
  2. Promising Young Player (12-17yrs)
An award may be made to young players who have proven ability in a particular sport and possess the potential to achieve excellence. The award will help offset cost of training, travel and equipment.
  3. Referee/Umpire/Administration
To attend courses or events that would benefit sport, for example to officiate at a major competition.
Notes
  • General club running expenses will not be considered under these awards.
  • More serious consideration will be given to applicants who would not normally qualify under Sport Lisburn's general financial assistance scheme.
  • Applications will be accepted for areas which are outside the suggested three categories listed above, especially those items of a special or unique nature.
Clubs in the City of Lisburn are circulated with details of the scheme in September of each year. There is a total of £1,500 available for the purpose of the awards. The awards are also publicly advertised and application forms are available during September from the Leisure Services Department, Lagan Valley Island, Lisburn, BT27 4RL.
